At the capital, "Occupy Albany," protesters camped out at his doorstep demanding an extension of the so-called millionaire's tax.

On Tuesday, politicians and union leaders at City Hall in Manhattan called on Cuomo to do the same.

"TWU Local 100 is absolutely not gonna accept a three-year wage freeze when millionaires in New York state are getting over. We're just not gonna do it," said John Samuelson, president of the Transport Workers Union Local 100, which represents New York City's subway and bus workers. "It is a morally indefensible position to slash vital services for the working families across this city and across this state while simultaneously giving the wealthiest folks in New York State a massive take home pay increase."

City Council member Robert Jackson urged voters "to call the governor, to write the governor, to e-mail the governor, to buttonhole the governor."

"It really is troublesome to me when the conversation that we're hearing from our governor sounds more like the conversation that we're hearing in Wisconsin and other states where, again, the working class are asked to give back, give back, give back  and yet the wealthy are asked to pay less," said council member Melissa Mark-Viverito.

The advocates say, if extended, the millionaire's tax would produce $4 to $5 billion in revenue next year.

Though it's called a millionaire's tax, it actually applies to those who make over $200,00 a year. Unless extended, it will expire on December 31, 2011.

So far, Cuomo has said he is not in favor of extending the tax.
