Suffolk County Executive Candidates Face Off Again

HAUPPAGUE, NY (WCBS 880) – The candidates for Suffolk County Executive faced off at a breakfast gathering in Hauppauge this morning.

WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs On The Story

Angie Carpenter, the Republican candidate, says jobs would be her top priority if elected.

“Creating jobs, retaining jobs. The name of the economic development game is retention,” she said.

Carpenter, the county treasurer, says maintaining the jobs we now have would be easier than finding new ones.

Steve Bellone, the Democratic challenger and current Babylon town supervisor, agrees, but adds accountability will go a long way to building a stronger economy.

“We’re going to create accountability in Suffolk County government. If we’re going to solve the fiscal crisis we have to make this government more efficient,” he said.

Ballone says his experience as Babylon town supervisor has prepared him well to run the county.

I went to a meet the candidates last week at the Coram Fire House to also ask about the County owned and operated nursing home. Mr Ballone left within the first half hour without answering questions about the nursing home.

2 weeks ago I emailed a question about each candidates opinion on the John J Foley Skilled Nursing Facility. I received a response from Ms Carpenter within hours. I got an auto response from Mr Ballone saying I would receive a answer within 24 hours, Still no answer.
