Suffolk County Police To Keep Close Eye On Sex Offenders This Halloween

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Police in Suffolk County are doing all they can to make sure children enjoy a safe Halloween this upcoming Monday.

The Suffolk County Police Department has joined forces with the U.S. Marshals and other law enforcement agencies in its mission to keep an even closer eye on registered sex offenders living in the county.

Authorities will be making sure that no sex offenders answer their doors to trick-or-treaters.  They will also look for any Halloween decorations on their homes that could be inviting to children.

Police said they would also be conducting in-person interviews to verify addresses and will monitor designated offenders to gain information that will be used to conduct specifically targeted surveillance operations.

Authorities are also encouraging parents to watch their children closely on Halloween and make sure their know what safety precautions to take when trick-or-treating and interacting with strangers.
