NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Police in Suffolk County are doing all they can to make sure children enjoy a safe Halloween this upcoming Monday.

The Suffolk County Police Department has joined forces with the U.S. Marshals and other law enforcement agencies in its mission to keep an even closer eye on registered sex offenders living in the county.

Authorities will be making sure that no sex offenders answer their doors to trick-or-treaters.  They will also look for any Halloween decorations on their homes that could be inviting to children.

Police said they would also be conducting in-person interviews to verify addresses and will monitor designated offenders to gain information that will be used to conduct specifically targeted surveillance operations.

Authorities are also encouraging parents to watch their children closely on Halloween and make sure their know what safety precautions to take when trick-or-treating and interacting with strangers.

This reporter should have asked for proof that Halloween causes sex offenders to suddenly attack. There isn’t any. its really so much nonsense that is mindlessly repeated every year.
The facts about sex offenders and Halloween are in the link below. This expensive annual charade is really nothing more than a political flexing of muscle to convince the public that police are doing something. Shameful. Studies have been done and there is no evidence that sex offenders do anything differently on Halloween than any other day.

Do we have trouble with sex offenders in this country? Definitely. But not on Halloween. Save the money, politicians – and use it to REALLY keep the public safe.

There has never been a report of registered sex offender attacking a Trick or Treater in the U.S. I dare anyone to find such a report. I guess the holiday demands a bogeyman.
