Officers In NYPD Ticket-Fixing Scandal Expected To Surrender
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Bronx District Attorney's office will unseal indictments Friday in the widespread NYPD ticket-fixing scandal, 1010 WINS has confirmed.
Sixteen officers and 5 civilians are expected to surrender overnight or Friday morning to face criminal charges ranging from bribery, larceny, perjury and obstruction.
The indictments will be unsealed at 10 a.m. with a news conference expected to be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday afternoon.

At its peak, CBS 2's Pablo Guzman reports more than 500 officers came under scrutiny during the investigation. Those involved are accused of taking cash, alcohol and other gifts for fixing the tickets.
Several high ranking city lawmakers and a New York Yankees official were reportedly among those who allegedly had tickets thrown out. Those indicted were most likely snared on authorized wiretaps.

The case reportedly started by accident. Apparently the owner of a barbershop not far from the 43d Precinct in the Bronx called his cop son to see about fixing a ticket. Unbeknownst to the cop the telephone was being tapped by Internal Affairs officers who were investigating local drug trafficking.
In the past two years, CBS 2 News has learned over 80 cops have been disciplined by Commissioner Ray Kelly for minor offenses related to the ticket-fixing investigation.
