"The company's new and expanded headquarters with some 1,600 employees will occupy about a third of a 51-story tower," said Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Coach CEO Lew Frankfort said the building will stand on the corner of 30th Street and 10th Avenue.

"We are now a global enterprise," said Frankfort. "New York is a part of our DNA and we could not think of a better place to be than here."

Frankfort says he's pleased the new headquarters will be located at the top of the High Line.

Construction is slated to begin next year and should be completed by 2015.
