SYOSSET, NY (WCBS 880) – Over the past 15 years, there has been an on and off fight against a mammoth mall project on Long Island.

Now, home owners and community leaders are once again gearing up to fight a renewed effort to build a luxury mall in Syosset.
The developer, Taubman Properties, is now trying to include the $500 million project in Long Island’s long-term plan.
Local opposition is strong, but not everyone is against it.
“I think it’s good for industry and it’s good for the community,” said Jeff.
But Mitch is a homeowner who says the negatives to a mall far outweigh the positives.
“They’ll be more problems with this mall than the jobs are worth,” he told WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs. He cites traffic as a major problem.
A massive mall opposition rally is planned for Sunday.
