"The idea of two marathons in two days came up when I was being asked 'Look out 10 years, what are the kinds of things that the city could do and New York Road Runners could do to welcome more people?'" said race director Mary Wittenberg.

But runners should not get their hopes up.

"It's definitely not something the city and New York Road Runners are talking about right now," Wittenberg told WCBS 880 reporter Marla Diamond.

A fourth wave start is being considered to grow the race without changing the course.

The 2011 New York City Marathon will be held this Sunday. Folks are still working to prepare the course after the recent snow storm that walloped the area.
