NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are looking for a suspect who they say repeatedly punched a woman inside of an elevator before taking her jewelry, cell phone and cash.

It happened Wednesday at a building in the Bronx on Donizzetti Place. Police say a 55-year-old woman got into the elevator with the suspect who then began punching her in the head and face.

When the elevator stopped on the fourth floor, police say the suspect forced her into the stairwell and continued to hit her before taking off with her cell phone, jewelry and money.

The woman was taken to the hospital with lacerations to her face and a broken rib.

The suspect was seen on surveillance video inside the elevator.
