Residents Deal With Water Main Break In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A large water main burst open earlier Thursday in the Morris Park section of the Bronx, leaving more than 200 families without water.

The water was spilling from the streets into nearby stores after the 20-inch main broke at Morris Park and Holland Avenues. However, CBS 2's Sean Hennessey reported that the storm drains were able to take in the water.

The main break caused quite the headache for Department of Environmental Protection crews that were working all day.

Local residents said that even hours later, the break was still proving to be an issue.

"Right now, it's extremely discolored, so it's not drinkable," Rosemary Russo, of the Our Lady of Solace Church, said.

Russo also added that somebody had called up and asked if the churhc was "going to have enough holy water" for the weekend.
