NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – The FBI is searching for two brazen bandits who robbed an armored truck early Thursday.

Authorities say the robbery took place at about 7:446 a.m. on East 155th Street and 3rd Avenue in the Bronx.

A Rapid Armored truck was parked, delivering cash to David’s Check Cashing. As a guard brought a bag of cash into the shop, two suspects followed him in. The FBI says one of the suspects was armed with a silver pistol.

The duo demanded the cash from the guard and a struggle ensued, the FBI says. The guard was maced.

As the suspects ran off with the cash, the guard pulled his gun and fired several shots.

“This was an incredibly violent act and put the public at risk,” said Supervisory Special Agent Barbara Daly.

The suspects are described as being middle-aged black men. One is about 50, slim, about 6 feet tall with graying facial hair. He was wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and black boots. The second suspect is in his 40s and is the shorter of the two. He was wearing a reflective MTA vest, a black jacket, blue jeans and sneakers.

The FBI says a “significant reward” is being offered for anyone with with information that breaks the case. Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI at 212-384-1000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS. All calls remain anonymous.
