NEW YORK SPORTS HEADLINES
1. Green Bay Packers 9-0 (1)
The beat goes on for defending champs, now 15 straight wins after blowout of Vikes. Four more TD passes for Aaron Rodgers and an 80 yard Randall Cobb punt return for TD. Maybe they can go undefeated.
Next: vs. Bucs
2. San Francisco 49ers 8-1 (2)
Didn’t think it was possible for the Niners to win a game with Frank Gore rushing for zero yards, but they did in big win over Giants. With five games left inside the division, these guys are steamrolling towards a first round bye.
Next: vs. Cardinals
3. New Orleans Saints 7-3 (7)
Sean Payton sends thank you note to Mike Smith for boneheaded call in overtime, sealing New Orleans win. Now in control of division, Drew Brees closing in on Johnny Unitas’ record of 47 consecutive games with TD pass, now with 37 in a row.
4. Houston Texans 7-3 (10)
Houston now with four straight wins and tied for best record in conference after blowout win in Tampa. Matt Schaub foot injury could be serious, however. Can this team win with Matt Leinart at quarterback? They are winning without Andre Johnson and Mario Williams.
5. Pittsburgh Steelers 7-3 (6)
Late interceptions by Lawrence Timmons and William Gay help Pitt hold off upstart Bengals in Cincy. Now if they can only beat the Ravens.
6. New England Patriots 6-3 (8)
Reports of Evil Empire’s demise greatly exaggerated after beating up inept Jets at Meadowlands. How good would this team be if they actually had real players on defense? Pats could run table with cream puff second half schedule.
Next: vs. Chiefs
7. New York Giants 6-3 (4)
Eli Manning continues to be the NFL’s best fourth-quarter quarterback with near miss comeback in Frisco. If only their special teams were even average. Giants can bury Philly dream team once and for all with win on Sunday.
Next: vs. Eagles
8. Baltimore Ravens 6-3 (3)
Baltimore can look like AFC’s best team at times, but continues to lose to weak sisters on the road after brutal loss in Seattle. Where have you gone, Ray Rice?
Next: vs. Bengals
9. Chicago Bears 6-3 (unranked)
Monsters of midway make it four straight with destruction of fading Lions in Chicago. Has there ever been a better return man than Devin Hester? Why does anyone ever kick to him?
Next: vs. Chargers
10. Cincinnati Bengals 6-3 (9)
Striped cats hold off Motown cats for the final spot in the top 10. Cincy’s loss to the Steelers is more impressive than Lions loss in Chicago. Can they win a game versus the Ravens or Steelers?
Next: @ Ravens
Falling Out: Detroit Lions
Closing In: Dallas Cowboys, Tennessee Titans
