NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Another incident of anti-Semitic vandalism has residents in Brooklyn disheartened and upset.

In the latest occurrence, a sign at the Avenue J Station was defaced so it read “Avenue Jew.” Transit police have removed the sign and are investigating the situation as a bias crime.

1010 WINS’ Terry Sheridan Reports From Midwood

“I grew up here, I’ve been here my whole life and I’ve never seen some things that, you know, have been going on the last week or so. It’s surprising to me too,” one Midwood resident told 1010 WINS’ Terry Sheridan.

The latest act of vandalism comes in the wake of last week’s bias incidents on Ocean Parkway.

At least three cars were set ablaze and dozens of pieces of anti-Semitic graffiti were plastered along benches in Midwood. The cars were damaged and the benches vandalized along Ocean Parkway between Avenues I and J. Among the vandalism: “KKK” scrawled nearby, as well as numerous swastikas.

“You know, it’s not good that Jewish people have have to fear for their lives. Everybody’s trying to be peaceful as much as they can in this world and to have incidents like this, it’s not good at all,” another resident said.

“You’d like to think you’d be safe to practice religion — any religion — in this area, but guess not,” said another Brooklyn man.

The reward money for information regarding last week’s incidents has now increased to $56,000.
