Justin Bieber Hosts NYC Meet-and-Greet To Benefit Charity

By Carly Sitzer

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – The allegations that he impregnated a 20-year-old woman at a concert last fall aren't slowing down Justin Bieber.

The teen heartthrob is coming to New York on Thursday, when he will host a "meet-and-greet" for 150 "Beliebers."

Tickets for the event were priced at $1,500, but the money will be buying more than just the happiness of 150 girls with Bieber Fever.

Bieber is being honored at the First Annual Gala for his commitments to Pencils of Promise, a non-profit dedicated to building schools and increasing educational opportunities in developing countries.

Bieber has been involved with PoP since its founding by Adam Braun in 2008; since then, the organization has established more than 40 schools in three different countries.

In addition to donating to the cause, the purchase of a ticket, guests will get a group photo with Bieber, an autographed picture and a ticket to the gala.

While he was well received with his last big appearance in New York City - nearly causing riots when he made an appearance at Macy's Herald Square - Bieber's experiences in the Empire State haven't all been pleasant ones.

He faced legal action after cancellation of a Long Island promotional appearance caused a fan frenzy at Roosevelt Field Mall.

Then, in early 2011, Bieber was met with a Bronx cheer when he attended a Knicks game at Madison Square Garden.
