Mixed News On Long Island Drivers

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department has been patrolling both the Long Island Expressway and Sunrise Highway since 2008 and now the numbers are in.

Statistics show that in the past three years fatalities are down on both stretches of roadway.

But DWI arrests are up.

The sheriff credits the B.A.T. Mobile – a mobile breath alcohol testing unit that can come to the scene when someone is pulled over suspected of DWI.

It has led to faster processing times and has left more officers on the roads.

How do you feel about the driving on those roads? Sound off below!

Great! DWI first offense lock ’em up for at least one year. I dont see the difference between a drunk with a loaded gun or a drunk with behind the wheel. DWI penalties are far far too lenient.
