Livery Driver Shot In Brooklyn Attempted Robbery Expected To Survive

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- It seems to be open season on livery cab drivers.

Dame Ndiaje, 42, was shot three times on Sunday night after responding to a radio call around 10:30 p.m.

Ndiaje arrived at Pacific Street and Nostrand Avenue in Brooklyn in what may have been an "illegal street hail gone bad," according to spokesman Fernando Mateo, of the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers.

Two men got into the back seat of his livery cab and one hopped in the front -- that individual began beating Ndiaje with a gun while attempting to rob him, 1010 WINS' John Montone reported. In the process, Ndiaje was shot three times with one bullet striking his chin.

Mateo told 1010 WINS that Ndiaje is no stranger to violence and said that it was the second time in the last seven years that he was shot.

"One of the suspects said 'don't shoot, don't shoot,' and the guy in the front seat just opened fire -- shooting him three times," Mateo said.

Mateo, who spoke with the injured driver, said it appears as though he will survive. He also noted the recent uptick in violence against cab drivers.

"We lost Patrick Hall in Queens 2 weeks ago, we are caring for Mr. Ali who got car jacked and pistol whipped requiring 50 stitches across his face in the Bronx, and now Dame Ndiaje who was shot 3 times, 2 in the arm and 1 in the chin in Brooklyn," he said.
