Police Hunt Gunman Following Shooting In Broad Daylight In Brownsville

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The NYPD is asking for the public's help identifying the man caught on surveillance tape shooting another man in the leg.

The incident took place last Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving, at 4:25 p.m.

The circumstances of the shooting are sketchy, but the incident itself was caught on surveillance video. Two men are shown talking on the corner of New Lots Avenue and Stone Avenue. One man, wearing a sports-type jacket over a hoodie, is standing with his hands in his jacket pocket, apparently holding a pistol. It's not clear what words were exchanged between the suspect and the victim, but at one point on the tape, the suspect fires a shot, apparently from under his jacket or through his jacket pocket.

The victim, 25, is shown collapsing on the street, and the suspect saunters away. The victim was taken to an area hospital in stable condition.

Police describe the suspect as a black man, 5'8", and about 200 pounds. Police say he has a dark complexion, and in the video he is seeing the jacket, hoodie, blue jeans and tan work boots.

Anybody with any information about the suspect is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-8477 (TIPS) - all calls are kept confidential. You can also text your tip to 274637 (CRIMES) and then entering TIP577. You can also log on to the Crime Stoppers website.
