Construction Accident Kills NJ Worker Saturday

NORTH BERGEN, N.J. (AP) -- Authorities say a construction worker was killed when a cable pulling a metal trash bin onto a truck snapped and struck him in the back of the head at a single-family home in northern New Jersey.

North Bergen police tell The Record newspaper that the man -- whose identity was not disclosed -- was partially decapitated in the accident, which occurred just before noon Saturday.

The man apparently was sitting in the truck's cab when the cable snapped and broke through the truck's back window. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Traffic was temporarily detoured in the area while police investigated, but no major travel problems were reported.
