Prosecutors: Man Weighed Down Child Seat With Daughter In It Before Creek Toss

FREEHOLD, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Prosecutors outlined chilling new details in the death of 2-year-old Tierra Morgan-Glover during a court appearance by her alleged murderer - her dad.

Arthur Morgan III was arrested Tuesday by U.S. Marshals in California, where he was apparently staying with friends.

Prosecutors say Morgan attached a tire iron to Tierra's car seat to weigh it down before throwing it in a creek.

Tierra was strapped in her car seat when her body was found face down and partially submerged in a stream near Shark River Park in Wall Township.

The FBI believes the girl and car seat were thrown from an overpass.

"Anyone that could do what he did to his own flesh and blood, a 2-year-old baby, is clearly a danger to others," said First Assistant Monmouth County Prosecutor Richard Incremona.

The judge set bail at $10 million.

Prosecutors say Morgan killed Tierra during a court-approved visit on Nov. 22.

Tierra was laid to rest last week in an emotional service.

Tierra's mother Imani Benton told CBS 2 last week she had been abused by Morgan for years.

"I'm relieved that they caught him. I can sleep," Benton said. "I don't have to keep looking over my shoulder and thinking that he's still out there."

"I would jump myself off that bridge to bring her back," she said.
