NEW YORK (WFAN) – Giants fans are up in arms.
Coach Tom Coughlin is “sick” over a still photo that appears to show tight end Jake Ballard coming down with a called non-touchdown catch inside the end zone. Even general manager Jerry Reese was carrying around the picture on Monday.
Is there anyone on the Giants willing place blame away from the officials for Sunday’s 38-35 loss to the undefeated Packers?
“You never leave the game in the hands of the refs,” safety Antrel Rolle told WFAN’s Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts on Tuesday. “Sometimes they’re gonna make great calls, sometimes they’re gonna make bad calls. They’re not perfect and neither are we.”
“So you really can’t expect a perfect call each and every game,” Rolle stated.
Officials ruled Ballard out of bounds on the first-quarter grab. Referee Jeff Triplette upheld the call after Coughlin challenged the play.
But hey, the Giants fought Green Bay hard and are still in control of their playoff destiny. The next four games will be critical for New York, starting this Sunday night in their first of two meetings against the NFC East-leading Cowboys.
“If we go out there and play with the intensity and emotion and the passion we had this last Sunday… Man, those teams are in trouble,” Rolle declared.
Rolle made headlines last week when he proclaimed the swooning Giants will “absolutely” make the playoffs. Despite the loss and Big Blue’s 6-6 record, Rolle isn’t backing down.
“Will we make the playoffs? Without a doubt,” he said. “Without a doubt. We will be in that postseason. And we all know once you get in the postseason, that record is 0-0-0.”
