Extend NY Takes Manhattan Grid Worldwide

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) - There are many who believe New York City is the center of the world and now, thanks to a new website, every place on Earth has an address on the Manhattan grid.

"Clearly there's pattern. But then it just kind of suddenly stopped. So to me, it seemed kind of obvious that I should try to extend it," said Harold Cooper, the man behind extendny.com.

It's where you find the White House not on Pennsylvania Avenue, but on South 3,821st Street or the Eiffel Tower on 64,857th Street and if you zoom out far, you see where all roads in New York lead to Uzbekistan.

"What I've been calling Uzbekistan is the north pole of Manhattan," answered Cooper.

Cooper says the site is just for fun, but wants you to look at it this way: "If you're used to thinking about things in terms of Manhattan blocks, which a lot of us who live in Manhattan are, suddenly you can realize, like, 'Oh yeah. Washington, DC is just 1,500 blocks away.'"
