Three Men Shot In Central Islip

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Three men were shot early Sunday morning on Long Island, Suffolk County police said.

The shooting happened in Central Islip at 3:35 a.m. at the intersection of Hawthorne and Suffolk avenues, according to a police release. Five men were driving in a Jeep Cherokee on Suffolk Avenue when a Honda Pilot drove next to them and one of its occupants fired shots into the Cherokee.

"Omar Canales, 26, of Amityville, was shot in his right arm, Enrique Mendez, 21, of Amityville, was shot in the chest and Jairo Rodriguez, 26 of Brentwood, was shot in the neck," the release stated.

Central Islip Ambulance responders transported the three shooting victims to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore. The two other occupants in the Cherokee were not injured.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on this incident to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
