NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — For the second year in a row, the city, along with Johnnie Walker, are offering free taxi, livery and public transit rides on New Year’s Eve and morning.
Department of Transportation Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan announced on Friday that they’ll be giving away 1,500 free $15 debit cards as well as 4,000 holiday single-ride MetroCards.
1010 WINS’ Gary Baumgarten reports
“No matter where you are celebrating you will now have an all-access pass to a safe ride home,” Sadik-Khan said. “It’s our way of reminding New Yorkers that you need to ring in the New Year responsibly by making a plan and by having a designated driver.”
WFAN’s Boomer Esiason offered his support for the campaign.
“As a father of two college kids who are returning home the one message we always tell our kids is to remain responsible as they get back together with buddies from high school who all want to be out celebrating,” Esiason said.
