Select Blendz Provide The Sounds Of The Season On The Subway

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — The sounds of the season can be found in the subway, jingling all the way.

Harried commuters stop their hustle and bustle through the 34th Street subway station to tap their toes to the sounds of the season provided by Select Blendz, a group with the Music Under New York program.

1010 WINS’ Juliet Papa reports

“The best thing is when people just stop and stare they’re not expecting to have this type of music being sung,” singer Scout said.

The group of seasoned musicians, consisting of a capella, soul, R&B, and gospel singers, formed three years ago.

“We do doo-wop, R&B, we do some Elvis for fun,” Billy William Chavis said. “We try to spice it up.”

The group recently performed at the Winter’s Eve festival in Lincoln Square for the lighting of the Christmas tree in Dante Park.

But in case you missed it and you’re looking for some music to get you into the holiday spirit, all you have to do is grab your MetroCard and track Select Blendz down in the subway system.

The live performances in the subway are such a fantastic perk – for the price of a ride you get to hear and watch great performances. I actually look forward to taking the train at Union Square because I know there will always be a great musical moment going on at the Music Under New York location.

These guys are what makes nyc a place to live in, rather than a place to suffer from. Fabulous addition to the heartbeat of the city. This guy C above me clearly lacks ears, soul, and much of what makes us human. I only wish we could fill every train station with artists like these gents.

I’m regularly amazed by the range of performers and talent in the subway. Love the Music Under NY program too. Seeing them compete really makes me appreciate how much harmony they add to my daily commute. So glad I don’t live in a city where I have to drive to work.

As if there isn’t enough noise pollution in the subways already.

These dirt bags need to be slapped in the face and kicked out of the subway
