2 Charged In Brutal Attack On Wall, N.J. Homeless Man After Video Posted On YouTube

Police: Suspects Did This For Nothing More Than Their Own Savage Amusement

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — Police say two young men have been charged in connection with an assault of a homeless man after videos of the attacks were posted on YouTube.

The videos, which have since been taken down, show a young man walking into a wooded area in Wall Township.

The homeless victim is 50-year-old David Ivins, who was attacked, police said, by two young people, one armed with a camera.

“What we’re gonna do is attack this bum,” one of the alleged attackers is heard saying on the video.

Wall Township Police arrested 20-year-old Taylor Giresi of Belmar, and a 17-year-old from Lake Como, who allegedly recorded the blood sport, reports CBS 2’s John Slattery.

The victim is also seen on tape being tackled, punched, pushed, kicked, kneed and mocked by his assailants.

“Just dive on him! Dive on him!” the cameraman says.

The two then say they are going to steal the homeless man’s bike.

“No, I need my bike!” the victim says back.

Smiling at the camera, the young man is seen running off with the bike as the cameraman says “Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah or whatever the (expletive) you are.”

A second video posted on YouTube, which has also been removed, seems to show a different attack in which the same man is seen punching, kicking and knocking the same homeless man to the ground.

The video shows the homeless man as he slowly gets up with a bloody nose, struggling to regain balance.

“Oh, my God, you’re bleeding!” says the cameraman. “We didn’t mean to do that. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. Wipe off the blood.”

The video then shows the young man go to hug the homeless man but then knees him in the stomach.

That’s when the victim screams and the two decide to leave.

“Alright, he’s screaming, he’s drawing attention. We’re out,” one of them says.

But not before the young man is seen running up and kicking the victim in the head.

“You gave him the big boot!” the cameraman says. “The big boot!”

In a statement on its website, Wall Township Police said they became aware of the video on Sunday and said an investigation determined that the victim is a Wall resident “who often finds himself homeless.”

“The video showed that the subjects involved took advantage of the victim’s unfortunate circumstance and targeted him on two separate occasions due to his financially destitute situation,” said police in the statement.

“It was overactive, aggressive, for no reason other than for their amusement,” Det. William Bono later told CBS 2’s Slattery.

Both suspects face aggravated assault, conspiracy, robbery and theft charges. The one charged as an adult is being held on $111,000 bail. The 17-year-old is being held as a juvenile.

Giresi’s mother said the boy’s father died just a week ago.

“It’s wrong what he did. I can’t believe my son would do something like that,” Joanne Jost said.

Slattery spoke to another homeless man who knows the victim.

“All he’s got is a bike, the clothes on his back and a book bag with a little radio on it. And that’s all he has,” Jack Uhden said.

As if the victim didn’t have enough to worry about, being homeless and destitute, he’s suddenly become a punching bag.

forth comment down had it right. These kids are sociopaths.

  • Angela Depelsmaeker

So sad, Hope the homeless man gets home, food and everything great from here on!

  • Hmmm

Now if the homeless man had pulled out a .44 Magnum, I wonder if the situation would have been any different? Hmmm.

  • Eddie B

I would hold the parents accountable.

    • I, the Jury

F that. These sociopaths are 17 & 20 – charge them with attempted murder as adults.

This sort of thing is what CITIES are for. Suburbs are supposed to be peaceful and quiet and quaint. Crime belongs in cities. New York City owes us big time.

    • Phil

I made a account just to let you know that your comment is false and ignorant , Many suburbs have high crime rates and homeless people , just because these kids live in a suburb dosent mean that they can hurt other people cause they arent as well off as they are , and bringing NYC into this makes no sense , what about Newark and other cities in Jersey. I dont see how NYC owes you anything .

      • Tom Rivers

Suburbs are supposed to have ZERO crime rates and ZERO homeless, because REAL Americans live in them. And yes, Newark should count as a suburb because it’s outside of NYC.

        • Naryaquid

“Suburbs are supposed to have ZERO crime rates….” because REAL Americans live in them”?….

          Who are “real” Americans, Tom?.

What a blatantly ignorant individual you are.

          • Tom Rivers

            REAL Americans are suburbanites.

            • naryaquid

Could you explain WHY, in your view, only suburbanites qualify as “real” Americans?.

      • Craftyb

I also guarantee for the MOST part if these kids committed this act in the city someone would see and someone would have either called the cops or stepped in. Little punks need to catch a beat down.

    • Craftyb

Having lived in both NYC and Edgewater, NJ I have to tell you I feel MUCH safer raising my kids in the city. I live in Astoria Queens my daughter is an honor role student with access to many after school activities. The kids here focus on getting into the specialized high schools so they really do work hard to keep grades up. I also grew up partially in Napa California and partially in Brooklyn. I hate to tell you this, but most of the kids I knew in Napa were doing hard drugs and involved in gangs by high school because they had money, time and it was accessabe. Living in NYC it was much more densly populated and while you have your average day to day crap that goes on with kids, I didnt know ONE kid doing the crapload of drugs those kids in the suburbs were doing because we saw crackhead homeless people every day and knew that was the result. So, yeay, go enjoy the burbs and sheltering your family, dude!

  • xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I bet these two get a reality TV show after all they did do this at the NJ Shore

  • jonathan

    Throw these losers in jail

    • xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

how long have you be into mens rectums?

  • Mel Ahka

Used to be drinking and driving didn’t mix. Now it seems like youth and modern technology really don’t mix.

  • Reality

It is only fair to report the entire story and show all people involved. Not just the individual who was brutalized for being poor & not having family to help.

  • Jay

you give decent people in new jersey a bad rap you pos!!!!!!!!!

  • bday55

First of all they live in New Jersey. Second they probably watched Bum Fights and had nothing better to do (see #1).

  • SoTired

This is really disgusting. How can these kids think its funny to do this to someone? What esp. upset me was the fact that they stole the poor mans bike.. That bike is probably all that guy owns and these two pieces of garbage probably have everything handed to them. I hope they both get what they deserve,..

  • xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Taylor Giresi i think you will be receiving a big black penis in jail

  • Sackson

What happened to the victim? Did he get his bike back? Is he alright?

  • DanTe

Sterilize the two stinking family lines. Don’t let it spawn and further infest the gene pool.

    • doc in NJ

don’t worry… a Darwin Award is coming to these families. They just don’t know it yet… karma has a way of catching up with people.

  • W

After watching this I am completely disgusted. To take advantage and attack someone like that is awful. I know they are considered “kids” but I really hope they throw the book at them. I’m sure this isn’t the only time they’ve done something like this. Just disgusting people.

  • jimbow99

Anyone have email address, phone numbers or street address for him and/or his parents?

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

  • jant1215

OK, I think this is a perfect time for “an eye for an eye”.

  • cat

They should get a big boot straight to jail with no bail. WHY do we allow bail for a violent crime?

  • Dale Beeman

OK folk’s here’s some of the youth of the day showing a fellow human just what X-mass all about……..may they rot in hell……or better yet…….may they become there victom

  • Don

Would these idiots pick on someone who can protect himself? They both need to do time in a nasty detention facility. Hopefully their Christmas is spent in a lock up.

  • Darla

This is so sad and very upsetting. How could these 2 young men be so heartless! I can’t understand how they think beating an unarmed, down on his luck man is fun. And then to wish him a happy holiday before hurting him again….I just don’t get it. They should be trying to help those less fortunate than themselves, not hurting them . I guess they’re just two spoiled brats who need to learn some compassion!

  • MaxineRocks

What charming little psychos! Don’t their parents just have so much to be proud of? Oh, the girls are just sooo impressed with their manliness! Dilholes! I bet they tortured small animals for fun when they were younger, too, and thought they were clever. They should have their @sses kicked and, as community service (because you know that’s all these fine, upstanding pillars of society will get!) made to work in a homeless shelter first and a later a morgue, but I doubt they’d actually learn anything from it – you just can’t fix stupid.

  • Yankee Fan

These two young men I hope are tried as adults. When I was 20 if I saw a homeless man I would offer my coat and my Big Mac, certainly never harm him. This is the sign of evil, cowards. The effort they put into hurting this poor man could have went to help him. And maybe bring some confidence to these two punks. Nothing more is the sign of a useless coward than to pick on the needy. These two are not worthy of being called Americans, Jersey Boys, or even Human Beings. Lock their cowards butts up for 10 years!

  • RealWomanPara

Guessing you’re looking for that “downward trail” when your time on Earth is done. Well, I can certainly hope so…You’re a heartless moron.

  • RealWomanPara

One can hope that one day you become homeless and the same is done to you. Bet you’ll be laughing your butt off then, Zippy.

    • RealWomanPara

My last comment was directed to JERSEY JOE…butt-head.

  • A$$hole

I have no idea what you this is funny about this story.

  • Joe

They should lock up these a$$holes. This is just poor upbringing. To beat up a homeless man who is down on his luck for whatever reason is just no right. Hopefully the parents don’t try and bail them out of this one. and let them do their time.

  • Pi$$ed Off Long Islander

Bring those boys to my world and I will make them regret any disrespectful thing they have ever done. Zero tolerance for this kind of behavior to our fellow man…

  • bullett

The actions of these two young punks does not show proper
upbringing by their parents. Most likely hatred comes from one or both of their
homes. Very sad that they have to pick on a defenseless and very possible
drunkard homeless man, who somehow fell on hard times. Not the way to treat a fellow human being that did noting to offend, or hurt them. He’s just trying his
best to live out his life. Hopefully by now some public defender will assist
him in a law suit against these two punks and their families, or better yet
have them do community service for the next year or two at a homeless shelter.

    • Pi$$ed Off Long Islander

Bullet, I like your thinking. Better yet, make them live the winter in the woods and see how they survive.

      • tom

Put these two spoiled white rich boys in jail for a month, with no “protective custody” and they will learn a lesson they will never forget

    • Richard Henninger

I hope the system serves justice to these losers and they run across someone in jail not having a wonderfull Christmas that will deal with them appropriately.

  • john doe

What about the homeless man, is he okay? have police looked for him?

  • Lock Them Up

I hope they lock up these 2 aholes for a few years. You just don’t do that to anyone. They must get beat up at home or have some crappy upbringing to behave like animals.

    • Flynn

Unfortunately sometimes the upbringing means nothing. A kid can have everything in the world they want: Loving parents, good education, food on the table, etc…and they still turn out wrong.

But seriously, these two need to be put into a room with 20 homeless people and the door locked for a few hours.
