Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Commissioner Ray Kelly Pay Christmas Visit To 75th Precinct

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Ray Kelly dropped in on the 75th Precinct station house late last night to pay tribute to a fallen hero.

Officer Peter Figoski worked there until his death in the line of duty two weeks ago. He was promoted to Detective posthumously.

Bloomberg and Kelly observed the roll call for the officers about to head out on what had been Figoski’s midnight shift.

“Some years, Christmas isn’t very merry, and I think this is one of them,” Bloomberg said. “But we still have a lot to be thankful for, because of everything you guys do, for everything Pete did.”

Five suspects have been charged with Figoski’s killing.

Donations to a fund established to help pay for the education of Figoski’s four daughters have now exceeded $1.3 million.

i grew up in the 75. dad was nypd for 30+ years. to the current members of the 75, and all other station houses, and firehouses in nyc, i wish you a safe tour today/tonight, and to you and your families a happy, safe and healthy new year. dad is now in an alzheimer’s facility, and may not know who i am any longer, but he well remembers his time in the dpartment.

They know the name of the fallen Officer, but, ask them to name any Officer standing among them in that Photo who are about to go out on Patrol, and I am certain they are clueless.
