NEW YORK (1010 WINS) - With temperatures relatively mild, blue skies, and a holiday Monday, residents of the Tri-State area got a chance to be tourists in their own city.

1010 WINS’ Terry Sheridan On The Story

“Why not?! It’s a beautiful city. You got to enjoy it!” said one man.

“We’re from all the way from Westchester,” laughed one woman. “But this is a treat to be in the city today.”

She looked at the crowds in Central Park and warmed up with food from street vendors.

5th Avenue and Rockefeller Center were packed with New Yorkers going to St. Patrick’s Cathedral or getting a glimpse of the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree.

One child said the most enjoyable thing was a ride on the subway, remarking that horses smell bad.

“Just taking pictures. Can’t complain,” said one man.

Many of the city’s cultural institutions were also open today.

For many, today marked their one trip into the city this year.
