"I have never met Lady Gaga. I saw her once perform at the Metropolitan Museum," Bloomberg said on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, workers installed the world-famous ball -- complete with 2,688 Waterford crystal triangles.

The crystal triangles were placed in a new design titled "Let There Be Friendship." It is meant to represent friends holding hands around the globe.

"You walk in and you see people from all around the world, and I think that's what [is] awesome about Times Square," Jawad Alkowaitz said.

Meanwhile, Gaga said that she has never met the mayor, who called her "a great entertainer."  Bloomberg said he is also expecting a record crowd in Times Square because of predicted "temperate" weather.
