Winning Mega Millions Lottery Ticket Sold In Middle Island

NEW YORK (CBSNewY0rk) - The winning Mega Millions lottery ticket was sold on Long Island.

Officials say the sole winning ticket, worth more than $208 million, was sold around 2 p.m. Monday the King Kullen supermarket located at 1235 Middle Country Road in Middle Island.

"That's a lot of money, but I'm very happy for whoever won it. It's a great Christmas present and a great start to the new year," resident Jennifer Pfister told CBS 2's Chris Wragge.

"I hope somebody local won. That's what I really want," resident Suzie Spalletta said.

The jackpot is the largest ever prize on Long Island.

"All we know so far is that it was purchased last night at the store it could possibly even be an employee which would be exciting," District Store Manager Frank Vassalo told 1010 WINS.

New York State lottery officials say the winning numbers -- 23, 32, 33, 39, 43 and a mega-ball of 8 -- were chosen via Quick-Pik -- or automatically chosen by a computer.

Lisa korpi, a clerk at King Kullen, says she's not the mystery winner but knows exactly what she'd do with the money.

"Buy a car, and a new house, move to Florida, go on a cruise, lot of plans," she said.

If you're not the big winner, don't throw away that ticket just yet. Lottery officials say three tickets sold in New Jersey and one in Connecticut matched five numbers, but not the mega-ball.

Folks with those tickets will take home $250,000.

The vast jackpot had New Yorkers dreaming.

"I would move to Beverly Hills, get a Beamer," said Upper West Side resident Johnny Perez. "All the cars I ever wanted in my life."

The odds of hitting the jackpot was one in 175 million.
