LAKEWOOD, N.J. (AP) — Prosecutors say a southern New Jersey man stabbed a woman with a knife and then used it to stab himself.

It’s not yet clear what sparked the stabbings, which happened shortly before midnight Saturday at an American Legion Post in Lakewood.

Both the man and the woman remained hospitalized on Sunday morning.

Michael Paulhus, Ocean County’s executive assistant prosecutor, told the Asbury Park Press that the man slashed the woman on her neck, then used the knife to slash his own neck. Further details, including the identities of the man and the woman, were not disclosed.

No other injuries were reported.
