Stoudemire Misses Second Straight Game With Sprained Ankle

NEW YORK (AP) — New York Knicks forward Amare Stoudemire missed his second straight game Monday night against Toronto because of a sprained left ankle.

Stoudemire said he was feeling better after a few days of treatment and hopes to play Wednesday. Coach Mike D'Antoni wants Stoudemire at 100 percent before he plays again, so rookie Josh Harrellson got his second straight start.

Stoudemire was hurt Thursday in a loss to the Los Angeles Lakers and missed the Knicks' 114-92 victory in Sacramento on Saturday. Harrellson replaced him and had 14 points and 12 rebounds.

The Knicks got good injury news Monday, as first-round pick Iman Shumpert is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a sprained right knee ligament. Expected to miss two to four weeks after he was hurt in the Christmas opener, he has increased his workouts after only running in straight lines during the West Coast trip. The guard was cutting and dunking Monday after the morning shootaround and could practice Tuesday if there are no overnight setbacks.

"Today I got to do a little bit more cutting, hopefully I can do a little bit more tomorrow and day by day see how much I can do," Shumpert said after the shootaround.
