More than 28,000 people signed up within the first 24 hours.

"It just shows the allure, the demand, what the marathon really means to people. This is more than a road race. This is a celebration of the human spirit," he said.

Race fees have jumped 24 to 39 percent, depending on the applicant.

"[It] reflects both rising operating costs for New York Road Runners and the new city fees," Fin told WCBS 880 reporter Marla Diamond on Tuesday.

Those are fees for police assistance and overtime.

"What we continue to work here on is delivering a championship and a winning race," said Find.

They hope to be able to have even more runners this year.
