NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – Robert Aquino, the former chief executive of Parkway Hospital in Queens, admitted to taking part in a bribery scheme that involved former State Senator Carl Kruger.

He told a federal judge that he had agreed to make payments that would go to Kruger in return for his efforts to keep Parkway Hospital from closing.

They turned out to be failed efforts.

Aquino says he knew his actions were wrong and that he is truly sorry.

Lobbyist Richard Lipsky, who was also involved in the scheme, also pleaded guilty.

As for Kruger, he resigned from the State Senate, pleading guilty just two weeks ago in this wide-ranging conspiracy that’s come to symbolize corruption in Albany.

Kruger faces up to 50 years in prison when he’s sentenced.
