Mayor Bloomberg Lauds Speedier Restaurant Opening Process
NEW YORK (WCBS 880) - New York City's mayor is boasting about a new program that has helped to open more restaurants faster.

It's all about cutting the red tape and hitting the accelerator on inspections of restaurants that are about to open.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg says the city has shaved off an average 72 days by coordinating health, building, and fire inspections.
"That is 72 more days of serving customers, 72 more days of employing New Yorkers, 72 more days of generating revenue, and 72 more days of paying taxes," Bloomberg said on Tuesday.
The New Business Acceleration Team (NBAT) has already allowed 500 restaurants to open two months earlier.

"Every day they're waiting to open for business, every day they're waiting to start serving customers is a day that they're not making money and not employing the people that need jobs in this city," Bloomberg said.
The mayor says the city is doing a pilot program to speed the process for retail stores.
