NEW YORK (WFAN) – Consider Big Blue “Fewell-ed up.”

Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell signed a one-year extension last winter that would keep him under contract through the 2012 season, according to multiple reports.

Fewell, whose deal was thought to be expiring, inked his original two-year contract with New York after the 2009 season.

With the news, an East Rutherford reunion for former defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, fired by the St. Louis Rams this week, appears unlikely.

Fewell was a hot commodity during last offseason’s coaching carousel. He was interviewed by the Panthers, Broncos, Browns and Titans but failed to land a top job.

The Giants were ranked No. 27 in total defense this season.

Giants fans: Are you happy with Fewell or would you like to see Spags’ return? Sound off below…

I think Fewell will turn it around if Reece actually gives him something resembling able linebackers and safeties. Spagnolo will just sulk waiting for another HC job.

Lets put it this way… I’d rather have Spags waiting in th= wings to take Coughlin’s spot over Fewell.

It is what it is hopefully with off season workouts and practices the young guys on D will get it or Fewell will have enough sense to dumb it down before week 15.

    Bring Spags back!!

Giants defense was awful most of the 2011 season. But they did have a ton of injuries in key positions. That being said, I’m still not crazy about Fewell and would rather have Spagnolo back.
