Long Island Man Accused Of Stealing From Relative, School District

UNIONDALE, NY (WCBS 880) – 52-year-old Ivan Shamberger is accused of stealing a paycheck from his relative, but the crime didn’t end there.

WCBS 880’s Sophia Hall On The Story

That relative works for the Uniondale school district.

Shamberger is then accused of writing down the routing and account number on the check and, for seven months, used his home computer to purchase items online from a number of stores using the stolen check information.

Police say in the end he bought nearly $37,000 worth of items.

The money came of the Uniondale school district’s payroll account.

Authorities told WCBS 880 reporter Sophia Hall that Shamberger and the school district employee lived together.

The employee is said to have had no idea what was going on and has not been charged with a crime.

If Shamberger lives with a “relative” in the same house, how can the “relative” not see items coming into the house. The “relative” should be held accountable for his mishandling of sensitive information and should be terminated from his employment with the Uniondale School District for even having that sensitive information at home, at the very least. There is more to the story, and we, Shamberger’s neighbors, believe everyone in that residence is culpable.

Are you serious? Mishandling of sensitive material? A paycheck is now considered sensitive material?

And why would purchases necessarily trigger suspicion? Anybody with good sense can lie about their lives, you know.
