Comptroller George Maragos says the county is owed over $80 million in traffic, parking and red light camera tickets over the past decade.

"I think our collection agencies that we have been using have not been aggressive," he told WCBS 880 reporter Sophia Hall. "They got rid of one. They'll probably force the other one out probably as well when their contract is up."

Maragos said it's a lot of money that, if collected, could have saved some county workers from being laid off recently.

He said that from now on, the county will do a much better job collecting the dough.

"We need to make sure now that we go after and collect the money that is out there," he said.

Maragos said another problem was a lack of computer tracking for those who did not pay.
