NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – It’s been two weeks since a college student from Virginia was last seen during a New year’s Eve visit to Manhattan.

Ian Burnet, 22, was staying with friends at a Riverside Drive apartment building when he disappeared on Dec. 30. Friends have been plastering missing person signs in the Hamilton Heights area the college student was last seen.

More than 1,000 people have joined the “Find Ian Burnet” Facebook page and New York State police featured his photo on its missing persons website.

Tuesday night, family and friends gathered in Virginia for a candle light prayer vigil. Burnet’s father hopes someone will help bring him home.

Burnet arrived in the city by bus on Dec. 26. His dad says everything seemed fine when they last texted the next day. His son said he had visited Central Park and Burnet’s roommate says they spoke on Dec. 30. But that same day, he left the apartment building around 4 p.m. and hasn’t been seen since.

Burnet is well-known in his hometown. He was valedictorian of his 2008 high school class and he’s an engineering student at Virginia Commonwealth University with a 4.4 grade point average. ’

His friends in New York say he left all of his personal items, including his cell phone, inside the apartment where he was last seen.
