School Bus Crashes Into Home In Jamaica, Queens; 6 Injured

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A woman is in the hospital following a school bus crash in Queens on Thursday afternoon.

A four-door Nissan Altima apparently ran a red light and hit the bus, sending it over a curb and into the woman, before smashing through a brick fence and into the side of a home, 1010 WINS' Al Jones reports.

"I was standing in front of my house, and I heard, like, bang, and there was like a crash," one neighbor said.

"Indescribable, it was really bad. The car hit the bus and the bus ran through and hit the wall and she didn't lose her legs but her legs are pretty broken up," one witness said.

The accident happened at the corner of Liverpool Street and Glassboro Avenue in the Cedar Manor section of the borough.

The injured woman and the driver of the car were taken to Jamaica Hospital. The woman was said to have serious leg injuries. Six people in total were injured in the crash, with two kids on the bus avoiding serious injury.

The children were evaluated at the scene.

"They need to put a four-way stop sign there, or a stop light," said Aberton Green, who put the fence up to ward off car accidents.

"Too much accidents happen over here, so we really need a four-way stop sign," another neighbor agreed.
