NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Williamsburg’s New York Distilling Company has been entertaining guests at their cocktail bar, The Shanty, since November, 2011.
Open every day from 5 p.m. until 2 a.m., The Shanty is a spot where one can sit back, relax, enjoy a craft cocktail (or a craft beer, no less), while gazing out at the inner workings of a real life distillery.
The two spirits that are currently being produced here, Dorothy Parker and Perry Tot’s Navy Strength, easily shine through the stiff craft distilling competition. Founded by Tom Potter, Bill Potter, and Allen Katz, the NYDC is invigorating the city’s distillery scene.
The folks at the New York Distilling Company have been kind enough to share some of their signature cocktail recipes. Want to make them at home? Easy, just grab yourselves a bottle of each of their gin bottlings, your cocktail shaker, some ice, and shake or stir away!
THE ACERBIC MRS. PARKER
2 oz Dorothy Parker – American Gin
0.25 oz Combier Orange Liqueur
0.50 oz Hibiscus Syrup
0.50 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
Shake ingredients over ice and strain into a collins glass filled with fresh ice. Top with chilled seltzer and garnish with a lemon twist. Serve with a straw.
1 oz Dorothy Parker – American Gin
1 oz Carpano Antica Formula Vermouth
0.50 oz Amer Sauvage – Gentian Liqueur (from Bitterman’s)
0.50 oz Fresh Grapefruit Juice
Shake ingredients over ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with an orange twist.
TOT & TONIC
1.25 oz Perry’s Tot – Navy Strength Gin
Chilled Tonic Water (we use Q Tonic at the bar)
Pour Perry’s Tot into a 10oz Collins glass. Fill with ice and add chilled tonic water. Garnish with a lime wedge. Serve with a straw.
THE OPERA COCKTAIL
2 oz Perry’s Tot – Navy Strength Gin
0.75 oz Dubonnet Rouge
0.25 oz Maraschino Liqueur
1 dash Regan’s Orange Bitters
Stir ingredients over ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.
