NEW HAVEN, CT (CBSNewYork) - Instead of attending to the welfare of the unconscious female patient in the back of an ambulance, paramedic Mark Powell is charged with raping the 22-year-old woman.

Powell, who is charged with first degree sexual assault, admitted to touching the woman inappropriately, say police.

But Powell's attorney, Norm Pattis says wants to see the tapes.

"I don't want to hear from the police that they don't have video or audio tapes. Everybody in this country's got a cell phone in their pocket with a record button," he told WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau.

Pattis says his client is devastated by the charges against him.

He'll enter a plea of not guilty this morning in New Haven Superior court.
