NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Someone needs some spelling lessons, badly.

Outside Marta Valle High School at Stanton and Suffolk streets, the crosswalk contains a bizarre warning to drivers.

“SHCOOL X-NG” reads the warning.

1010 WINS’ Al Jones reports

Of course, it should read “SCHOOL X-ING.”

Looking at the street, you can see that work has been recently done under the “HC” and “X-” portions of the paint.

A crew repaired the street spelling at around noon, 1010 WINS’ Al Jones reported. The NYC DOT said it was an error by Con Ed, and Con Ed says it’s looking into it, Jones reported.

There are three schools on the block, although the mistake was right in front of Marta Valle.

What do you make of the error? Sound off in our comments section below.

All of your comments are wrong. This is job security for the dummys. That is way the city spends twice to fix the problems. For example When the DOT paves a new street a month later the city has to dig it up to install new pipes or cables. That is a waste of tax payers money. No one looks at this problem. Who cares asl ong as the city worker get paid.

ill guarantee the utility that messed it up in the first place is the one paying to fix this, not the city.

Your Third-Grade Teacher

Of course, you meant “DUMMIES” rahter than “dummys,” right?

This is FUNNY, on one hand the right says its illegal cheap labor and those darned Unions the liberal left says its because we need to do more for the illegals so they mainstream into society. LOL its just prank I think, if not, then may that big giant massive comet that is suppose to destroy the world on Dec,21,2012 hit me in my forehead first.

I agree – it’s VERY funny. If everyone would get over their righteous indignation and their need to assign blame, they might see this for the practical joke that it is. Regardless of the reason or the motivation behind why…..it’s FUNNY! Lighten up, people….

NYGirl

This is what happens when you hire cheap labor and illegals.

Unions don’t hire cheap labor and illegals. Just the opposite. Of course, those people aren’t too bright either…

That looks more like the work of expensive, American-born union labor.

Pathetic that the writer of this article feels the need to point out the correct spelling.

I am a kid myself, and I remember about 5 years ago ( I was 4, now I am 9 ) my dad teaching me and correcting me, ” No, you spell school S-C-H-O-O-L” and I always wrote Shcool. But now, my dad sent me this article and I laugh. Please reply my comment even if it’s just OK.

Your dad has taught you well. Keep up the good work, I’m glad you know the correct spelling even though some adult doesn’t. But it was nice that you, dad and all of us could get a good laugh from it.

Do you get a picture of a few hundred kids growing up, and every time they want to write the word :”school”, they have to stop and think it over? It sounfs like the teachers didn’t notice for quite a while, either.

We should check on it. Maybe it ish shcool.

January 24, 2012 at 10:53 am

Auto Correct

Blame it on technology. Between texting and the software that does spell-checking and auto correct, it has made us a land of idiots. You don’t need to know how anything is spelled. The computer will fix it for you. It would also be interesting to see if a foreigner did this who doesn’t even know English.

Is a it possible Hate Crime? I see the way they spelled it SHCOOL almost has a Hebrew Twang to it?

Other than that I dont see why else other than Alcohol for lunch perhaps?

Happy Day!
