Giants' Umenyiora Fined $20K For Skipping Media Session

NEW YORK (WFAN/AP) -- A morning off will cost Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora thousands of dollars.

The NFL fined Umenyiora $20,000 for failing to show up for a mandatory Super Bowl media session Wednesday morning.

The league announced the fine less than two hours after the Giants wrapped up their 45-minute session, which took place at the team hotel.

Umenyiora was supposed to be sitting at a riser answering questions, but he never showed up.

The rest of the Giants players and coaches attended the session, four days before the NFL title game between the Giants and the New England Patriots.

"I misunderstood the schedule," Umenyiora said in a statement released by the team. "It won't happen again, and I will be at tomorrow's media session and available after the game. I apologize for any inconvenience my absence this morning may have caused."

Giants spokesman Pat Hanlon said Umenyiora was in meetings and will practice.
