Police: Man Pulled From Burning Car, Later Arrested For DWI

RIDGE, NY (CBSNewYork) -- Police in Suffolk County say a man had to be rescued from his burning car after he crashed into a tree and was later arrested for DWI.

Police say Andrew Harvanek crashed his 2009 Mazda into a tree around 1 a.m. on Randall Road in Ridge. Witnesses told police Harvanek tried to get out of his car, but collapsed. That's when the car burst into flames.

Responding Officer Kristopher Miller pulled Harvanek away from the burning car and Harvanek was taken to the hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Firefighters were called and extinguished the blaze.

After being released from the hospital, Harvanek was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated.
