New York Archdiocese Choir Will Perform During Archbishop Dolan's Elevation Services

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- For the New York Archdiocese Festivale Chorale Monday night meant fine tuning for an experience unlike any other.

Choir member Charles Scalfani told CBS 2's Hazel Sanchez that going to Rome to sing as part of a service for the elevation of Archbishop Timothy Dolan to cardinal is, "definitely a lifetime experience."

"I just totally feel overwhelmed by the feeling that is coming over my body in anticipation of doing this," he said.

The choir will travel to Rome on Tuesday. Marie Liberace said that she feels,"extremely honored."

"This is for all of us, it's a great honor to be asked to come and sing in Rome," she said.

The choir has perfected more than 200 pages of music in just four rehearsals. It will perform in several different churches in Rome, including St. Peter's Basilica.

As Choir Director Jennifer Pascual explained that the group consists of choirs from all over the New York Archdiocese.

"They've come together real well in four weeks," she said.

Choir members said they eagerly anticipate the opportunity to sing in the services.

"It's an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime experience. We all know. How often do you get to sing in St. Peter's Basilica?" said Sarah Belair.

With voices like angels the cardinal-designates will be sure to sing their praises.
