Jets' Sanchez Tweets Holmes: 'Want To Be My Valentine?'

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Jets coach Rex Ryan wants his stars to iron out their differences.

We're not sure this is what he had in mind.

Mark Sanchez broke the ice early Wednesday morning by tweeting a photo of a heart-shaped box of shortbread cookies to wide receiver Santonio Holmes.

"@santonio10 you want to be my Valentine?" the quarterback posted.

Holmes, inactive on Twitter since Feb. 9, has yet to respond.

Several New York players have recently spoken out regarding the toxicity in the Jets' locker room, particularly the rocky relationship between Holmes and Sanchez.

Running back LaDainian Tomlinson said the turmoil was the worst he'd ever seen.

Holmes was benched in the final minutes against the Dolphins in Week 17 after a spat in the huddle.

"I think it was an isolated incident" Ryan told WFAN's Mike Francesa last month. "I don't think it was pervasive throughout the locker room."

A guarantee kicked in last week on more than half of Holmes' $11 million salary for 2013 ($7.5 million). Add that to the $7.75 million already guaranteed for 2012, and the Jets are on the hook for at least $15.25 million over the next two years.

The Jets have said that they plan to retain the embattled 27-year-old wideout.
