WATCH: UFC Prez Calls Mayweather ‘Racist’ For Comments On Lin

NEW YORK (WFAN) — Unbeaten boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. isn’t a fan of Linsanity.

UFC president Dana White? He’s not too keen on Mayweather.

White took Mayweather to task this week for posting a racially charged comment on Twitter about Knicks star Jeremy Lin.

“First of all, what he said, I think, is racist,” White said during his “Presidential Address” segment Tuesday on Fuel TV. “He’s made a couple of racist comments. And yes, Floyd, you’re racist with the stuff that you’ve said.”

Mayweather tweeted last Monday: “Jeremy Lin is a good player but all the hype is because he’s Asian. Black players do what he does every night and don’t get the same praise.”

Lin’s popularity has skyrocketed since emerging from the Knicks’ bench nearly three weeks ago. As the NBA’s first American-born player of Chinese or Taiwanese decent, the Harvard product’s improbable saga has touched basketball fans across the globe.

The boxer was criticized heavily for his comment, but wouldn’t back down in a series of posts. “Other countries get to support/cheer their athletes and everything is fine,” Mayweather wrote. “As soon as I support Black American athletes, I get criticized.”

White was emphatic in his rebuttal.

“Kobe Bryant doesn’t any praise? Michael Jordan never got any praise?” he said. “The list goes on and on of guys who completely get praised for being great NBA basketball players. Not only can he compete and make it in the NBA, the guy’s tearing it up and is breaking records, you knucklehead.”

Rival boxer Manny Pacquiao has also been on the receiving end of Mayweather’s mouth. White said it’s time to quit it and get in the ring with the Filipino congressman.

“Don’t worry about what all these other guys are doing and shooting your big mouth off on Twitter,” said White. “What you should worry about is getting in there and making the fight that all the boxing fans want to see. Get in there and fight Manny Pacquiao!”

Mayweather will witness Lin-mania firsthand Thursday night. He has tickets for Knicks-Heat in Miami, according to The Associated Press.

Mayweather isn’t thinking at all except his own selfish agenda to support just his own kind of people. I’m asian and I grew up worshipping black, white, Latin sport stars because that’s all I saw, and the fact Lin is an Asian-American in the NBA (which is rare) is inspiring to a lot of people regardless of their race. Why can’t an Asian-American get attention for his success in the NBA? Wouldn’t your heart and your passion is what defines a person instead of just judging by the content of their skin? Mayweather obviously wasn’t following Lin’s backstory or doesn’t care about it.

Jeremy Lin has worked very hard and deserves the attention, he’s certainly earned it. Lin was a star basketball player in high school and he tried to apply for colleges for basketball, but was denied (obviously his ethnicity has something to do with this) and resorted to his backup plan going to Harvard. And even playing basketball in Harvard, some in the stands were teasing him because of his ethnicity. I find this very ironic that Mayweather would complain about Lin’s success when Mayweather himself is a minority and supports the struggles for African-Americans but not another minority who happens to be Asian-American. It’s people like Floyd that’s dividing this country, and it’s a shame there are professionals like him because there are many young people that look up sports stars.

@ SportSchucks, come on…Mayweather has been ducking Pacman for years you think he’d get into the ring in a match he’s sure to lose against a grappler with BJJ training. He’d get a few punches in then he’d get choked out in 30 seconds. Mayweather is a straight up pampered punk who won’t allow a REAL title defense because it would ruin his cache.

The same was said during the Tebow craze, that all Tebow fans are racist because they didn’t create that kind of a stir for a black QB, when the stir was really about wanting to see our first round draft pick, 3 time Heisman finalist, one time winner, 2 time national champion succeed in the NFL.

Comments: Gayweather fans in denial, still dreaming to sleep with their idol.
Dan was right about 1 point though.. It’s obvious that Mayweather is all talk when it comes to Pacquaio.
Floyd once insulted UFC, then when arranged to a stand-up fist fight on the octagon, he…errr… SHE then quickly apologised.. What’s up with that??

  6. Mikeybklyn says:

Ok Dana when will floyd be fighting in the UFC?

  7. Dan says:

White is right, lol…anyway Mayweather has a big mouth, we all know that…if any college, NBA black player put up 21 and 8 a night they would be on sportscenter every night and playing in the All star game…thats the respect they get and anyone else who puts up those numbers would too…hence Jeremy Lin, he just happens to be Asian…Mayweather has never complimented anyone except in a back-handed way…and I think he’s afraid of Manny…would love to see the fight!

  8. Sport Schmucks says:

Dana White doesnt care about Money Mayweather’s comments. Hes just trying to get more media attention and exploit boxing. And hoping he cant get Money May made enough to eventually land a Mayweather UFC event. Imagine the money that would bring in. get a sportschmucks take on this story
