The breach occurred at around 5:20 a.m.

A passenger in the British Airways terminal flagged by the Transportation Security Administration went through a security checkpoint without being pulled aside and screened. The passenger apparently walked away after being told to step aside for a security check.

As a result, all passengers in the terminal were rescreened.

On Twitter, passengers stuck at the airport were complaining about the disruption.

"JFK is insanity right now. Absolutely nothing is moving. People sleeping on luggage," Tweeted Shanna Carpenter.

By 7:40 a.m. the issue was resolved and passengers were allowed to board their flights, though residual delays lingered.
