Michael Douglas, Gordon Gekko Star In New PSA Against Insider Trading & Securities Fraud

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The FBI has recruited Gordon Gekko and the actor who played him in a new public service announcement.

They're hoping to solicit tips on possible insider trading and securities fraud.

The PSA begins with a clip of Gekko's famous "greed is good" speech from the 1987 movie "Wall Street."

Douglas then introduces himself, calling his Gekko character a "greedy corporate executive who cheated to profit while innocent investors lost their savings."

"The movie was fiction, but the problem is real," Douglas says. "Our economy is increasingly dependent on the success and integrity of the financial markets. If a deal looks too good to be true, it probably is."

Douglas then goes on to urge viewers to contact their local FBI office is they suspect insider trading or securities fraud. Tips can be submitted online at www.fbi.gov.
