Anti-Semitic Graffiti Found On Historic Queens Church

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Police are trying to find out who vandalized a historic church in Queens.

Pastor Terrence Webber said when he arrived at Trinity St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Maspeth around 8 a.m. Wednesday, he noticed a Star of David with a swastika in the center painted on the Church office door.

Similar graffiti was found on other doors at the parish, as well as a picture of a bomb on one of the windows and a “pornographic picture” in the back of the house.

Webber said police responded quickly and that an officer apparently recognized one of the graffiti tag lines.

Webber, who has been with the parish for 18 years, said nothing like this has ever happened before.

“I was kind of surprised but on the other side of the coin I wasn’t that surprised after all, it’s kind of a sign of the times in which we live that nothing is sacred anymore,” Webber said.

The church is 113-years-old.

No arrests have been made.

Well this is the church I was confirmed in and my husband as well. My kids baptized in. Horror at seeing this marking of a church. The Lutheran Church was not supportive of Nazis..

Pastor Niemoller made a very important statement at that time that rings true til today

.”In Germany they first came for the Communists,
    and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist.

Then they came for the Jews,
    and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
    and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn’t speak up because I was a Protestant.

Then they came for me —
and by that time no one was left to speak up.

No there is no possibility that the church out it there themselves!!! That is my home church and there is NO ONE at that church that would even think about doing something like that.

My Sorrow at the ignorance of the tagger. May they find God ask for forgiveness, I can just see Pastor Bosch now had this happened in his day he would encourage forgiveness , and prayer for the person involved. I know we would be out there cleaning it up if we were closer. Please give my comfort to my Home in Maspeth. Blessings to all. Patti

“ALLEGEDLY”?? Does anyone in your editorial department have any idea what the word means? Do you really think that there’s the possibility that this drawing on a christian church door is not an act of vandalism?
I have news for you, it IS vandalism!

    1. Patti Rairden says:

You are right it is vandalizing NO doubt. If they said so and so was allegedly part of this action yes… But this clearly is a hate crime.

  4. anti-hero says:

What do you mean by “allegedly vandalized”?

Is there any question that the graffiti exists? Or is there the possibility that the church put it there themselves?

    1. Patti Rairden says:

I am very angry that someone did this to a local church that has been supportive of all members of the community. I hope CBS understands the sarcasm of your comment. I am not sure they will.
