Plaxico Burress: Nothing ‘Would Make Me Happier’ Than Playing For Eagles
NEW YORK (WFAN) — Has Plaxico Burress seen enough of New York?
After spending time hauling in catches for the Giants and Jets, the free-agent-to-be appears to have his sights set on Philadelphia.
“It’s an exciting time for me being a free agent, having the opportunity to be in a place where I want to be and Philadelphia is obviously one of those places,” Burress told Philadelphia’s 97.5 FM on Tuesday. “Nothing else would make me happier.”
Earlier this month, WIP radio’s Howard Eskin tweeted: “Saw and talked to Plaxico Burress at Super Bowl and told me he wants to play for Eagles. Badly!”
Andy Reid’s team reportedly had interest in Burress last offseason, as he was nearing the end of a 20-month prison term on a gun charge.
Burress fueled the speculation by donning a Philadelphia Phillies cap upon his release from Oneida Correctional Facility last June. Instead of signing with the Eagles or Giants, the 34-year-old agreed with the Jets for one year at $3 million.
“Obviously as a team we didn’t accomplish our goal,” said Burress. “I just wanted to get out and get my legs back under me and go out and be productive. I’m thinking coming into this year, I’ll be a lot stronger and get back to the things I know I can do and go to a place where I can let my skills show.”
The wide receiver spoke openly Tuesday about his desire to play alongside Michael Vick, who resurrected his career in Philadelphia after a lengthy prison term for dog fighting.
“For us to get together and be able to play together on a professional football team, especially coming from where we come from and the things we’ve been through, I think it would really be a special deal,” he said. “I really believe that he can bring a championship to Philadelphia and I would love to be a part of that.”
Burress had 45 receptions for 612 yards and eight touchdowns for the Jets in 2011.
